What are KVM switches?
Keyboard Video Mouse (KVM) switches enable you to access and control multiple servers or network devices from a single computer console. KVM switches therefore significantly reduce the amount of equipment you need to control multiple computers and provide you with significant savings, streamlining operations and simplifying control.

KVM switches:answering the server management and control challenge

What is an “out-of-band” KVM system and why do I need it for my business?
KVM systems operate “out-of-band” – that is outside the main network. In an “in-band” solution new data travels slowly because it is competing with existing network traffic to move from location to location. The increase in traffic amplifies pressure on the network infrastructure making data transfer sluggish and creating the possibility of network failure. An “out-of-band” solution, on the other hand, benefits from a “personalized” infrastructure dedicated solely to transmitting the new data. This solution is fast and transmits the information instantaneously in real time. KVM switches therefore give you guaranteed fast access to servers that is not endangered if the network falls. Remote KVM, which uses the “in-band” Internet connection to access servers, is still considered to be “out-of-band” if it is independent of the operating system of the “in-band” network.

The KVM out-of-band advantage

Consolidating management of access to the IT infrastructure
Increased demand for remote access to servers and devices has led to a greater need for a managed KVM network to consolidate control of access to servers and network devices. Centralized management of the IT infrastructure is a new management concept, rapidly becoming a fundamental part of any enterprise level business strategy. Centralized management with open infrastructure (such as Minicom’s KVM.netŪ II) allows you control all you KVM switches both new and legacy from a single system. This saves you the cost of replacing your legacy switches.
