What is Virtual Media? Virtual Media is a method of connecting a remote storage media such as CD-ROM, USB mass storage, ISO image and floppy disk to a target computer that may be anywhere over the network. The target computer then has access to the remote media, and can read from and write to it just as if it were physically connected to the computer's USB port. Why is it useful? Virtual Media allows technicians to boot their target computer to any one of a number of virtual disks or drives. They can then perform a variety of tasks on the target computer that would normally require them to be physically present including installing applications, performing virus scans, patch management, and even complete installation of the target operating system.
