DX System
Q: Which types of CAT5 cable does the DX system support?
A: CAT5, CAT6 and CAT7.
Q: What is the maximum distance from the user to the servers?
A: 200m/660ft.
Q: What is the maximum number of users the DX system supports?
A: The DX 432 supports up to 4 concurrent users. The DX 832 supports up to 8 concurrent users. Both systems support up to 1000 user accounts predefined in the system with priority rights access.
Q: Does the DX system support control of Headless servers, routers or switches?
A: Yes. You can control any RS232 device through the DX system. There are three methods of controlling an RS232 device:
1) Through a built in terminal emulation at the DX User unit.
2) Through an external Terminal console connected to the DX User unit.
3) Through terminal software installed in a local PC connected to the DX User unit.
Q: What levels of security does the DX system support?
A: The DX system supports several levels of security as follows:
1) User/Password authentication to load the user profile.
2) According to the user profile the DX system determines the servers access rights.
3) In High security mode the user needs to be authenticated every time he switches to a server.
4) The DX system can lock its configuration disabling the user from ports on the DX switch to enable access to blocked servers.
5) When connecting through IP the DX system provides 128bit SSL encryption.
Q: What is AIMTM?
A: AIM stands for Advanced Integrated Management. This is a graphical management application that allows you to control and manage the DX system and peripherals that connects to it.
Q: Can I arrange my devices into different groups in AIM?
A: Yes. The AIM is a graphical user interface (GUI) in which you can create folders, name them and move your devices into them, so that each folder will contain relevant devices.
Q: How many devices can be connected to the DX system?
A: Up to 2048 devices.
Q: Can I share access to a server with another user?
A: Yes. Depending on your restriction rights you can connect to the same server with another user to view its screen. You can control that server after the other user has been timed out.
Q: Can I have a private session on a server?
A: Yes. Depending on your restriction rights you can have a private connection to a server where other users that are logged into the system cannot see your work.
Q: Which platforms and Operating systems does the DX system support?
A: Intel, Sun, Alpha, Mac & headless servers with DOS, Windows (3x, 9x,ME, NT4, 2000, XP, 2003 Server and later), Linux, UNIX, HP UX, QNX, SGI, FreeBSD, BeOS, Open VMS, Novell 3.12-6, Solaris, Java Desktop System.
Q: Can I access the DX system over IP?
A: Yes. You can build up your system and add IP access points as needed. The 432 can have up to four DX User IP units, and the 832 can have up to eight DX User IP units.
Q: What type of KVM console can I connect to the DX User (DXU) Unit?
A: You connect a PS/2 keyboard & mouse to the DXU. Through the PS/2 keyboard you can control Sun & Mac computers (special Mac/sun keys are emulated). You can also connect a Terminal Console to the DXU to control terminal servers.
Q: Does the DX system support a log?
A: Yes. The DX system has a built in logging system that can be monitored.
Q: Is the DX system firmware upgradeable?
A: Yes. You can upgrade the DXU & XRICC units through a USB key. Simply download the upgrade file to the USB key, plug it into the User unit and upgrade the system through the internal upgrade utility. The DX Central unit is upgradeable though the LAN.
Q: Can I back up the settings I entered into the DX system?
A: Yes. You can back up the DX settings onto a file, which can later be loaded back onto the system. All settings are saved in the Central unit, so no matter which DX User unit you access, your profile is always there.
Q: Can I recycle power to devices connected to the DX?
A: Yes. You can connect a Power Switch to the DX serial port and Power OFF/ON/Restart any device that is powered by the Power Switch using a simple control button on the AIM.
Q: Can I use my existing KVM switches with the DX system?
A: Yes. You can cascade your existing KVM switch to the DX system. The DX system will display all devices connected to a legacy switch in a seamless way so that all you have to do to control a server connected through a legacy switch is to click on that server’s icon on the AIM GUI without going through the legacy KVM OSD.
Q: Can I have a cluster of servers within the DX system?
A: Yes. You can daisy chain a non-multi user KVM switch to the DX system.
